Abraham enlisted in Captain Van Allen's Company of the 3rd(late 4th) Battalion, New Jersey Volunteers 20 August 1782. He served under Thomas Ward in the Loyal Refugee Volunteers. According to the "Bergen County New Jersey Deeds from 1689-1801" as compiled by John Davis, Heritage Books states that an Abraham Brooks of Bergen Co. New Jersey received 20 acres from George Dooremus in his will 25 March 1733.
