For years, I haven't been able to find the almost-5-dozen slides I took of Operation Sail on July 4, 1976 from Winston Towers in Fort Lee..............until last night, while looking for something else (of course).
I don't recall how I got in the Towers - friend of a friend, I guess - but I recall a nice wide area to shoot from near the pool. Unfortunately, it was an overcast day, so I had to use crappy (and bluish) Ektachrome instead of beautiful Kodachrome.
In the first picture, you can see all the residents and their friends on their decks in one of the towers. Just below the top floor, there's a big American flag. On the far left, you can see a roped-off area where the public could get a limited glimpse.
In the second picture, you can see the undeveloped property just to the south, a blimp, the Binghampton, and the old Alcoa building in Edgewater.
In addition to the ships in the other pictures, you can see lots the people on the NY side. The last picture looks like we're being targeted by artillery.
