"Mahwah Nike Missile Base" at the Hermitage Roundtable
« on: February 14, 2011, 11:58:17 AM »
The Hermitage Roundtable meets Wednesday, February 23 at 7:30 pm at the Hermitage.  The topic is:  US Army NY-93/94 Franklin Lakes-Mahwah Nike Missile Base, A Cold War History with Richard Levine, George Friedel and Jack Goudsward.  Richard will be showing “The Nike-Hercules Story”, a home video tour of the base from 1962 (narrated in person by George C. Friedel), and leading a roundtable discussion with George Friedel, Jack Goudsward, and those in attendance.  Cold war military history is in our back yard!

George Friedel worked at the base as an Army officer in the 1960 to 1962 timeframe, and has many details regarding the base.

Jack Goudsward is a Franklin Lakes historian, a trustee emeritas of the Bergen County Historical Society, and wrote the article "The Public History of the Franklin Lakes Nike Base NY-93/94." Jack specializes in military history.

Richard Levine is independently researching the Nike missile base, was an aerospace technical writer, and served at a Nike base on Okinawa in the 1964 to 1965 timeframe as a battery control area technician.
