Death in Oakland
« on: February 01, 2011, 10:19:59 PM »
I am trying to find out why my grandmother's 2 yr old half sister died. I can't prove relationship so cause of death is not on the death certificate.  They lived in Paterson but the place of death was listed as Oak Boro, Bergen County on the death cert. and Oakland, NJ in a Paterson newspaper death notice. No known relatives lived outside of Paterson. She died on July 15, 1917 and her name was Maria Mazuy. My grandmother was told 2 different stories - 1) She died in the flu outbreak 2) She was in a house fire and died or died soon after it from pneumonia. Either way I am trying to find out what she was doing in Bergen- Saint Joseph's Hospital was open in Paterson by that time.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Linda

This not an answer to your question, but any relation to the Mazuy family who built and operated Mazuy Mills, the textile plant in Newton, NJ? See http://newtonnj.net/Pages/newtonindustry.htm

Yes- He was my great-grandfather. He moved to Newton after he remarried and started his mill there.  I am trying to find out anything about his life in Paterson- much is still a mystery.
