Actions and Actors of the Revolution
Roundtable Meeting Topics for Fall 2007

Up the Palisades: The March on Fort Lee
September 25. 2007:  How and where did the British mount the rocky New Jersey cliffs in 1776--and why?  And how did the invasion affect the new revolution?  Local researchers and historians John Spring and Eric Nelsen, spell it out in a PowerPoint presentation of these critical actions close by.

Posting Letters Two Centuries Ago
October 23: Imagine a postal service that’s unreliable, that may require weeks to deliver a letter, and then demands payment from the recipient!  Such problems led Benjamin Franklin, under the Crown and in the new republic, to strive for the reformation of the postal system.  George Kramer, board chairman of the American Philatelic Society, explains all this and much more.

The Women of Washington’s World
November 27:  Yes, many women in many roles contributed to victory in the Revolution, but until recently those roles have been too often obscured.  Juanita Leisch-Jensen, independent researcher and lecturer, long active in The Company of Military Historians, will set us straight on the uncelebrated heroines of the conflict.

Where are meetings held?   The Iron Horse restaurant, Westwood, N.J.  Open to the public?  Yes, definitely.  What time? Come between 6:30 and 7:00 PM for conversation and fellowship.  Meals? Optional dinner costing $20, including gratuity. Advance reservations?  Not required.  Admission charges or dues?  None.  Questions?  Contact Chairman David Whieldon at 201-967-7692.
